York's Wild Animal Kingdom, Maine
I have been visiting Maine since I was a young child and now I enjoy returning with my own children. The best attraction for children, in my humble opinion, is located in Southern Maine along the Atlantic coastline.
York's Wild Animal Kingdom is a combination zoo and amusement park located in York, Maine. This attraction is a great place for families with children at a wide range of ages. The zoo part of the attraction features your typical leopard, monkey and tiger exhibits but this zoo has so much more.
My youngest children loved the butterfly and bird exhibits in which the open habitat allows for close encounters with these flying animals. The deer exhibit which included several horned reindeer allows the children to walk through the forest-like path and feed the animals which appear quite used to having company.
My older children enjoyed the exotic animals including an alligator and black bear all of which are close enough to actually see the animals unlike other zoos.
Inside of the zoo park, there is a large picnic area for lunch time that provides a variety of options for all tastes. The amusement park option offers your typical ferris wheel, bumper cars and go kart track. Our favorite ride at the amusement park is the fun house that is a nostalgic must see.
The amusement park is not by any means "Six Flags" but the great mix of the zoo and ride section is a perfect for family attractions. For more information on the zoo and advance tickets, visit their website at www.yorkzoo.com.
