White Water Rafting and More in Durago, Colorado
by Christopher Wooten
By day, it is a great time white water rafting down the Colorado River. While it is not a class five rapids, you have plenty of fun with the family going down the scenic river that is rough enough to make it a truly enjoyable trip. They have rides from mild to wild. Be sure to get the wet suit, because the water is mighty cold! The downtown area is a quaint historic area with lots of art galleries and shops to visit. There are also fine dining areas, and fun night spots on the strip. If you like antiquing, there are plenty of great antique shops to choose from. You can also take a scenic train ride to Silverton on an old fashioned steam engine. The fireworks display on the Fourth of July is truly spectacular with the mountains as a backdrop. It is fun to both hike the Rockies, and drive to see the nearby sites and towns. This is a historic area with plenty to see. It is fun to see the mining towns and the life of a miner. The wildlife that you see is amazing too. You see everything from deer and snakes, to bear and elk. The water is so crystal clear that you can see the trout swimming freely. My wife and I consider Durango to be one of our favorite getaways, and use to go multiple times a year when we lived in Albuquerque. I highly recommend visiting Durango Colorado. http://www.durango.org/activities/summer.aspx
