White Lake State Park in Tamworth, New Hampshire
White Lake State Park in Tamworth, New Hampshire is the perfect place for a family to go camping for a weekend or a week. It is located on Route 16. When our kids were growing up, it was our favorite place to go for an inexpensive weekend.
We always tented, but they also have spots for RVs. There is a very clean beach and lake in which to swim, and the camping sites are also kept very clean. Every campsite contains a fireplace and picnic table. There is also lots of space between campsites, so it never feels too crowded. There is a camp store for those emergency things that you forgot. It is really a popular site for families who like to camp and is also very close to lots of tourist attractions in New Hampshire, including North Conway, NH. There are no pets allowed here, so you will need to leave yours at home.
The park has 577 acres and there are several hiking trails. One of the best trails is the one that goes around the lake, which is an example of a glacier lake. There is trout fishing allowed in the lake. There is wildlife in the park, including New England's famous loons that make such a haunting sound at night. We spent many nights sitting in front of the fire at night and bonding as a family. The family that camps together, stays together, right? Anyway, have fun on your trip to White Lake State Park, a real treasure of New Hampshire. http://www.nhstateparks.com/whitelake.html
