Lucy the Elephant
Any family coming to New Jersey must stop and see Lucy the Elephant! She the the worlds largest elephant at 6 stories tall! She stands on the beach in Margate, NJ just south of Atlantic City.
Originally built as part of a real estate promotion there were 3 elephants built along the coast between South Jersey and Coney Island.
The others have since been destroyed by fire and weather with Lucy being the only one remaining.
Over the years they have served as hotels and restaurants, Lucy however is now a museum.
You get to walk up the spiral staircase contained in on of her legs and tour the museum of local history and fun facts. You can also take a look our one of her windows and see for miles out into the Atlantic Ocean!
Back down on the ground her gift shop offers many treats to remember your visit to Lucy the Elephant. Then after visiting Lucy the family can have fun on the beach or at the playground located just yards away on the Margate beach! This is a great day trip, just bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the water, or eat at one of the restaurants located nearby!
