Underwater Adventures in Mall of America, Minnesota
When you visit Minneapolis, MN, you have to check out Underwater Adventures! (www.underwateradvetures.com) It is my kids’ favorite place to visit in the Twin Cities.
Underwater Adventures is the Twin Cities’ answer to an aquarium. It is home to over 10 different kinds of sharks! It also focuses on native fish, coral reef fish, jellyfish and stingrays. Underwater Adventures is laid out in one large path. You start by walking through a section on Minnesota fish and turtles. It looks like you are walking through the Boundary Waters, and children always really love this section.
The best part is that the tanks are at eye level so it is easy for children to see what is in the tanks. Then you walk into Shark Bay. Basically it is a long tube. The sharks swim over your head and on your sides. You really feel like you are swimming with the sharks! You go through this section on a moving walkway.
Finally you enter another tube with fish from the coral reef. This section is so colorful, and full of lots of new “Nemo fish.” As you exit the “tube tanks”, you get to a section of free standing tanks that have sea horses and jellyfish of any and every kind. After strolling through this area, there are two “touch and feel tanks.” One is full of starfish and anemone, and the other has sharks and stingrays.
My kids are always so excited to go pet a shark! There is also a small play area. Underwater Adventures is located at the Mall of America just south of Minneapolis. It is easy to get to by public transportation. It is affordable, and surrounded by other fun activities so you can easily make a day of the aquarium and the Mall of America. NOTE: Teachers get in free!
