Its easy to do. Here's a road trip vacation planning review from one reader:
Mt. Rushmore, SD
We went to South Dakota in 2010 for the 70 year reunion of Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. While we were there, one of our first places to visit was Mt. Rushmore. Now, I've seen pictures all my life of Mt. Rushmore, but to actually view it in person is an experience in itself. You can view the faces carved in stone before you get to the park entrance, but do go inside the park because you get a better view of the carving head on.
I would highly recommend this for families because it is a great place to visit. The hall of flags from every state is really nice and to have your picture made in front of your state flag is very memorable. To see the names of the people that actually worked on the carving is really fun too. I actually found a man with the same last name as mine and I wonder if we are kin to one another.
I must say that I was slightly disappointed in the actual monument. I thought it would be much larger than it really is. Not that it isn't big, because it is but when you see pictures it looks much bigger than it does in person. All of our group agreed upon this point but no one was disappointed in their visit.
The people that work here are so nice and friendly and very informative not only of Mt. Rushmore, but the surrounding area as well.
The park is very beautiful and the surrounding countryside is just breathtaking! All of South Dakota is very beautiful! We truly enjoyed visiting Mt. Rushmore and again, I highly recommend this for families that want to explore the state of South Dakota and to see the history that others have left for us.
I am 47 years old and to have viewed this as a child with my family would be a very memorable family vacation and one that would be talked about for years!
