The Mississippi Children’s Museum, Jackson, Mississippi
The Mississippi Children’s Museum is a must see when coming to Mississippi. This new museum in Jackson recently opened, December 4, 2010. It is loaded with tons of activities for children, and fun for big kids and the big kid at heart.
I went in December with my daughter and her friend. We only had a few hours, not as much time as I wanted, but we had a blast! We started upstairs and got to play in the car, a real car, even equipped with a rear camera the kids could play with and a gas pump, to pump gas.
There was a lot of “work” play with props, tools and dress up clothes. The girls loved putting on the worker vests and picking up and moving huge beams around with the crane. They were adorable building and directing other kid workers as they played.
We ran downstairs after about 45 minutes and they put on Velcro suits and then ran and jumped as high as they could to stick to a Velcro wall. There was a huge scrabble game with letters a foot long, the girls “played” spelling their names, and then ran over to the dress up and puppet area. Amy put on the cutest show with Emily for me.
They were so excited. Amy said, “Mommy go sit over there. We’re gonna make a show for you! We’re gonna play Cinderella.” I sat in the benched audience area while she and Emily went behind the puppet wall. It was precious; I wish I had a video camera with me!
After that we went into the coolest reading room. There were more dress up clothes and books and great nooks to sit down and read in.
Lastly, the girls saw a kitchen, and when I say a kitchen it was really the coolest kitchen. They had all kinds of foods, soft foods, chicken with legs that detached, plates, spoons, cups, knives, you name it, they had it. The girls never wanted to leave that kitchen! They made lunch and desert. We had a picnic using some of the props there and around the museum.
They had the best time, and so did I. This is definitely a museum I have told all of my family and friends about. As soon as my sister and her son come for a visit, we are going! You can find more information about this museum at the following link. http://www.mississippichildrensmuseum.com/
