Silver Beach Carousel in St. Joseph, Michigan
If you find yourself traveling up the Eastern coast of Lake Michigan with your children, you must stop in the city of St. Joseph and take a look at the Silver Beach Carousel. The carousel is a recreation of the original carousel which was located in Silver Beach Amusement Park from 1891 through 1971.
Children can ride their pick of tigers, giraffes, fish, or a variety of other animals. Enjoy the music playing on the calliope. Located in the same building, you will find a small model of the old amusement park, complete with the scent of popcorn and cotton candy.
The building housing the carousel also contains the Curious Kids Discovery Zone, full of wonders for your child to explore. When you have had your fill of the riding the carousel, cross the street to the Whirlpool Compass Fountain. Children (and some adults) love to run through the jets of water shooting vertically through the air.
Approximately every 15 minutes, the water canons go off for the heartier children. Toddlers, generally run to the safety of mom and dad at that point.
You are just steps away from Silver Beach on Lake Michigan. The beautiful white sand makes a great place to "camp out" and relax. Let the kids play on the playground, splash in the waves, or build a sandcastle.
