Rhode Island tourist information always comes down to the Atlantic Ocean. This tiny state has hundreds of miles of coastline with hundreds of beaches. You can spend your time lying in the sand or you can get brave and head out into the water. There are boat tours that take you out to see the wildlife of the sea and charter fishing boats that escort you through some of the best locations for catching your own dinner.
There are trails to wander through and lighthouses to explore. Small farms and gardens are waiting peacefully when you need to get away from the excitement and just relax with the family. There is also a zoo where children can see animals native and from afar. The Providence Children's Museum awaits the little ones to give them hands-on experiences with science.
Children can also enjoy paddle boat adventures, carousel rides, and a miniature train ride on a real track. All of this plus much more is found at the Roger Williams Park and Zoo.

The Mansions of Newport, RI
My favorite family-friendly tourist attraction in Rhode Island are the mansions in Newport, RI. There are several mansions along the waterfront in this area, and they date from the Gilded Age of the United States.
Perhaps the most famous of these is the Breakers, an enormous mansion built by the Vanderbilt family in the 1890s. It is approximately 65,000 square feet, with 70 rooms styled in the lavish and ornate decor of the Gilded Age.
Many of the mansions in Newport have tours available, where you can take your family on a trip to the past, and see how the mega-rich lived 100 years ago.
There is so much history in this seaside town, you can practically feel it. It is a great area to take a vacation, particularly a day trip if you live in the northeast, in between Boston and New York City.
Families with children of all ages will love to visit Newport. In addition to the famous mansions on the seashore, there are several outdoor activities as well. You can spend the day on one of the city's famous beaches, or take a hike along the Newport Cliff Walk, a 3.5 mile walkway that offers beautiful views of some of the famous mansions, as well as the ocean, beaches, and seashore.
Newport is truly a fantastic vacation destination, unparalleled in many ways by any other town in the United States. A family-friendly getaway, in close proximity to New York City and Boston, that any history lover or beach goer would love.
