Colorado is a state full of sweeping panoramas and nature-inspired attractions that will delight every member of the family. If you and your family have visited Colorado, we'd love for you to share some of your travel impressions with other travel-savvy families.

Its easy to do. Here is one example of places to visit in Colorado from a reader:

Garden of the Gods

If you are traveling through Colorado and are anywhere near Colorado Springs, a visit to Garden of the Gods is a must. Garden of the Gods, a Registered National Natural Landmark, is a very family friendly place to visit with something that will appeal to everyone, kids and adults alike.

places-to-visit-in-colorado-01; garden of the gods Both the Park and the Visitor Center are free and open to the public, a major plus in my book. There are picnic areas, horseback riding, guided walks, biking trails, and lots of other things to do.

In addition to walking trails, there is also a road that goes around the park for those who prefer to stay in their vehicle. Of course, there is also shopping.

The Visitor Center has a great gift shop that has something for everyone. I visited Colorado Springs in August and, in spite of it being very hot, Garden of the Gods was worth the hours in the sun.

I was part of a small group of friends and when we got there, we parked the car and just started walking. It was the middle of the afternoon and the park was full of people wandering around. Having been warned by signs that snakes hang out in the bushes, I very happily stayed on the beaten path!

As we walked, coming ever closer to the mammoth rock formations, I had the sensation of feeling very small and very insignificant. The rocks are a reddish-brown and the colors were spectacular set against a bright blue sky.

After about an hour of walking around, a thunderstorm came in over the mountains from the west. This is a fairly frequent occurrence in the summer months.

We beat a hasty retreat back to the van and finished our visit by driving around the park in safety, while being treated to quite a show from the thunder and lightening. We still had the fabulous views to enjoy without getting wet! It was well worth the time to visit such a beautiful place.
