Palestine Gardens Tour in Mississippi
As part of the church youth group we got to go on a trip to Mississippi. We all new we were going to visit the Palestine Gardens, but I was personally surprised how just being there changed our whole outlook on the bible.
The word gardens conjured up images of lush trees and flowers. This was not to be. This was a real rustic trek through sparse bamboo and rubble filled landscape. It was as though we were transformed back in time when Jesus walked the earth.
This place is a mini replica of the "Holy Land." This trip took place just after Easter and watching the "The Greatest Story Ever Told" on TV, was brought to life. You get to walk through bamboo gardens that are a true replica of the Palestine of old as dispicted in the bible. In fact, one of the girls in the group remarked "I wonder if they will have Moses come down from a mountain". It was said in jest, but the tour guides really did make everyone feel as if we were taken back in time.
As we were taking the approximately 1 and a half hour tour, bible stores of events that happened along the route were narrated. Even the dress by the guides were authentic looking clothing of the bibical era. So many times when you take a vacation or a tour, the price prevents everyone from going.
The price of this tour was exactly right. The admission to see, feel and experience the little city was FREE. Our only cost was getting there.
One surprise was how very small everything was. We knew we were going to a replica city, but I was still amazed at how very small everything was. We all thought looking at the scale model of Palestine was just what we needed to start making plans to visit the real deal. Every single one of our group wanted to visit the real city and touch and feel the presence of so much religious history.
