Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, Alabama
The campground has a very long and winding entrance. Once you enter the campground, it will take you at least 10-15 minutes to get to the camping sites. The park is very beautiful and scenic. The campground has lots of hills and valleys for climbing (my boys – 12 and 13 – had a ball). The sites were very level and easy to back into. We were in a cul-de-sac, which helped a lot with backing in a big rig. The bathhouses were adequate, not very new, but fairly clean. The site rented for $23 a night and you can make a reservation, but you cannot pick your site. Our campsite changed levels, so while the camper was easy to level, it didn’t leave a lot of patio room. My boys enjoyed biking riding the most while we were there. There a fire ring area behind our camper, we just had to climb a small hill to get to it. The water, sewerage, and power connections were all great. This park has lots to do in the surrounding Birmingham area, but the drive in and out of the park was a little tedious. However, that is the price you pay for peace and quiet in a metropolitan area! I recommend Oak Mountain State Park for anyone wanting a great getaway in a quiet, scenic location. http://www.alapark.com/oakmountain/
