New York places to visit...where should you start? This state is rich with landmarks that you have probably been hearing about all of your life. You can have a little fun with the kids at Madame Tussaud's wax museum or keep it educational and visit the Empire State Building and Ellis Island.

If you want to keep it simple and affordable, simply spend some time wandering around the streets of the big city. You could sit on any corner of the city and people watch as a form of enjoyment with the family. There are many boutiques for window shopping as well.

Of course, a visit to the 9/11 memorial is one of the most important New York places to visit so you can pay your tributes to those fallen and educate the children on this important phase of recent history.

Head out to the Canadian border to see Niagara Falls or escape down the river for a dinner cruise. There are also many museums to explore topics of historical or cultural reference.

Letchworth State Park, New York

Letchworth State Park is my favorite attraction in N.Y. It has anything an experienced camper or a novice camper may need. It even has accommodations for those people who need a little more luxury than the avid camper.

I have been going to Letchworth since I was a little kid. It is a huge park and it does not seem smaller once I got older. My first experience with Letchworth was through a day camp. They took us there twice a camp session. On these camp trips we would cook out and use both pools.

They have two pools and they both were cool to swim and dive in. When I got older it was a place me and my boyfriend went for day vacations. We hiked the falls and swam in one of the pools. There are three falls I believe they are known as the upper, middle and lower falls. We spent most of our time on the middle falls.

At the middle falls you can see the Glenn Iris Inn. It is very pretty from the outside. I have never been inside. It is a bed and breakfast and a restaurant. We would always end our visits at the middle falls looking out over the falls with the special lights glowing.

When I was in my twenties I went to the state college (Geneseo) near by. We would escape from the college madness to the serene park. Most of my experiences at the park during this time period were in the winter. We went snow tubing and sledding, which were loads of fun and sometimes scary.

After I graduated from Geneseo I got married. We did not honeymoon here, but we did take our first family vacation at Letchworth. When my daughter was one we rented a cabin in the summer. The campgrounds were very accommodating. It made it easy to camp with a small child. It has a place to do laundry and a store for campers.

Now I am much older. I still go there every year, but my camping and hiking days are over. When I go there it is for there art show in October. It is always a great show. Oh I should mention that my children still go there every year to indulge in the Hot Air Balloon rides, the horseback riding and the white water rafting.
