New Hampshire National Parks

and New Hampshire State Parks

In many states, national and state parks are visited in the warmer months of the year for hiking, swimming, and other recreational activities. You can do all of that in New Hampshire national parks and state parks, but these parks also come alive in the coldest months of the year.

From skiing, snowboarding, and snowmobiling to mushing and snowshoeing, there is a lot to do in the snow-covered parks of New Hampshire. If you are interested in a cold-weather adventure, you could find it right here. If you are passing through and want to relax with the family, you can find it right here as well.

New Hampshire State Parks

Bear Brook State Park
Located in Allentown, this is the largest developed New Hampshire state park. Take to the extensive network of trails on foot, or enjoy the trails by mountain bike or horseback. You can rent a boat and take to the water on the weekends, and that is followed-up perfectly by a brisk hike and a relaxing picnic under the trees. The campsite offers over 100 spots and allows long term visitors to thoroughly enjoy the park.

Follow I-93 into the White Mountain National Forest to find the "great stone face" etched into the mountains. Stop by Cannon Mountain to ride the aerial tramway, or just spend some time on the winding roads enjoying the scenery as you pass through Franconia and Lincoln, New Hampshire. Cannon Mountain is also the leading snow vacation destination, so make sure to pull on the skis while you are in town. Campsites for tents and RVs are available, and there are many leisurely activities to enjoy from boating to hiking.

Hampton Beach State Park
Hook up the RV and enjoy miles of sandy beaches along the shore of Hampton, New Hampshire. Despite the name and location, this New Hampshire state park is open all year round, so you can stick your toes in cool water when it is warm and enjoy the surroundings in chillier weather come winter. There is a charge for each person visiting the beach during its open season, but RV camping is available if you want to make Hampton Beach a vacation destination.

Lake Tarleton State Park
This New Hampshire state park is located right on the lake, so it is perfect for romantic walks along the water and fishing. You can also head out on the water via canoe or kayak, or just sit on the banks and sink your fishing pole into the water. Make sure to pack a picnic lunch so you can enjoy the beauty of the park and enjoy some bonding time with the family.

You can rent a boat or canoe if you do not want to jump in the water for a swim. There are also trails waiting to be hiked or biked. If you want to spend more than a day in the park, you can rent a cabin or pitch a tent.

Pillsbury State Park
Join the loons in Washington! This is one of the lesser-known New Hampshire state parks, but it is also known as one of the more enjoyable parks. It is comprised of thick forest that provides a unique habitate for a variety of animals, and that includes loons. Hikers and mountain bikers enjoy the dense collection of trees, the ponds, and other wet features to be discovered throughout the park. The park closes in September and opens back up in March most years.

White Lake State Park
White lake is the best of all New Hampshire national parks and state parks if you like to swim. The shores of White Lake nestle up to the park, so you can take a dip between hikes or head out on the water by boat. This is a great park for fishing, picnicking, and just letting the little ones stretch their legs at the playground. It is located in Tamworth, New Hampshire.
