National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium, Dubuque, Iowa
Last May, my family and I took a 6 day camping trip to visit various states and their attractions. We traveled through seven states and visited six interesting attractions. We also squeezed in a surprise visit to far away family.
One of our stops was the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium. You can visit their site here: http://www.mississippirivermuseum.com for more information.
They are located in Dubuque, IA and are a must stop family attraction.
Among the aquarium exhibits that include a large variety of fish like sturgeon, giant catfish and more, there is also a 3-D/4D immersion theatre that my son loved! The audience is pulled into a discovery of the ocean and its wonders. Even the adults will love the theatre.
There is also a children's museum section, which is hands on, and a great science tool for little adventurer's. We always like going to the Discovery Museum near our home because both my both enjoy be able to touch the exhibits, learn how things work and not feel like they are restricted with their playtime.
There are many outside exhibits as well, that you can tour and explore, such as a working dredge boat from WWII and other landmark aquatic artifacts. From interactive exhibits to the great view from the River's Edge Cafe (also their selection of great food for kids) outdoor riverside patio, I'm glad that we made the Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium one of our family vacation stops!
