Mystic Seaport, A Must See in Connecticut
by Charlotte Gorton
When travelling in Connecticut with a young family, be sure to make time to visit Mystic Seaport in Mystic, CT. The Seaport is fun for kids and adults alike; it’s not too big as to get boring or too tiring walking around. There are so many interesting things to look at and learn about. Every time we went back with the children they learned something new, as they got older and more interested in exploring. On special days throughout the year they have special events, with music, cookouts and period toys for the children to play around the village green. The parking is close by and there are plenty of places to eat within the Seaport and many more restaurants in the area. It is also a place for a quiet stroll, even without the children. A favorite with my children is visiting all the different houses around the 19th century village speaking to the museum docents, in period dress. Also a firm favorite with our boys are the ships and shipyard. The place really transports you to a time when life was simple and rewarding, and I always left feeling somewhat envious of the simple lives that they led together with a feeling of being grateful that we have modern day conveniences. If you visit the website at http://www.mysticseaport.org/ you can get information about events, pricing and directions. It really is a wonderful day out. If you are staying in the area, close by is the Mystic Aquarium and information can be found at the following link http://www.mysticaquarium.org/
