Mount Washington in White Mountain National Park, New Hampshire
If you are traveling through the White Mountains of New Hampshire you need to take time out and travel to the top of beautiful Mount Washington located in the White Mountain National Park and surrounded by the beautiful and breathtaking White Mountains National Forest.
The best time to head there is in the early fall so that when you get atop the mountain you can take in the view of miles and miles of breathtaking foliage. But the ride up is not for the weak at heart. When arriving at the base of Mount Washington you will go through a checkpoint and at that point they will advise you if you car will able to handle the climb up and the descent down.
This is a winding mountain road with no guard rails. If your vehicle is unable to make the ascent up then they give you two options to get to the top. They have a van that takes passengers to the top with specially trained drivers or you can take a small train to the top. The drive to the top is breathtaking but if you have a fear of heights don't look over the edge.
As you make your climb up the mountain you can see the shrubbery slowly change as the climate changes and altitudes rise. Do not be surprised if its beautiful and sunny on the ground and once you reach the top there may be a passing snow shower. Once you reach the top you will be at the Mount Washington weather observatory. From this top point you will be able to look over the mountains and have the ability to look at such states as Vermont, New York, Massachusetts and some days even Canada.
There is a gift shop up top and place where you can use the bathroom and get refreshments. Make sure you bring a camera the pictures you take will be like no other. You can also do hiking on this mountain if you choose and if you can bear the weather. Whatever means you took up the mountain is how you will get down the mountain. I assure you this a great stop in a scenic place. If you have time give it a try. You will love it!!http://www.mountwashington.org/about/
