Minnesota State Fair
Nothing says Minnesota more than the Minnesota State Fair, http://www.mnstatefair.org/. For twelve days each August, the State Fairgrounds in Falcon Heights overflows with colors, smells and excitement for the entire family. You can stroll the spacious grounds and sample foods from around the world, with new and delicious options appearing every year.
Don’t miss trying a malt or sundae from Empire Commons, home of the state Dairy Association. Enjoy it with a foot-long hot dog or cast your vote in the endless competition – Pronto Pup or corn dog? You’ll want plenty of mustard on both.
The many buildings on the Fairgrounds are full of vendors and displays. You can purchase a miracle mop, or a funny tee-shirt. See artwork, crafts and homemade jellies, jams and baked goods made by Minnesota residents, all in search of that elusive blue ribbon. Pick up some information on colleges, or see the latest models of cars and trucks.
And the air of the Fair is filled with music as well. The Grandstand offers internationally-known performers each evening, and stages scattered around the grounds feature the best local and regional entertainment.
The Midway is a magnet for those who like rides and games of chance. Soar through the air on the double ferris wheel, or win a stuffed animal for your sweetie at the shooting gallery.
And no visit to the Minnesota State Fair is complete without a trip through the animal barns. Minnesota farmers and ranchers bring their best horses, cows, sheep and many others for judging. You can even see baby animals born in the Miracle of Life building!
If you really want to see Minnesota at its very best, plan a family trip to Falcon Heights and take in the Minnesota State Fair. One day may not be enough to enjoy it all.
