Fun Stuff to Do in Omaha, Nebraska
If you are traveling to Nebraska, you must stop in Omaha. There are many different things you could do, and most people would tell you to visit the Henry Dorley Zoo (http://www.omahazoo.com/).
That alone is worth the trip and will you an entire day (or more) just to walk through. The zoo is pretty self explanatory and the website describes it pretty well so I won’t bore you with a lot of details about that. However, I like things that are off the beaten path that you just happen across when you are in a town so I will tell you more about that.
The last time we were in Omaha we had a night to kill with nothing planned. We got in our car and started driving around. We saw a beautiful park and decided to let the kids out to play and walk around. The park is called Memorial Park. I could not find an actual place page for it but did find this wiki page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memorial_Park_
The park has a large lake with fountains in the middle. There are statues all around the sides that make for great photo opportunities. At night the fountains change colors and you can take a gondola ride around the lake. Since I couldn’t find any “professional” photos or a good website I thought I’d include some photos I have uploaded from our trip.
Both my daughter and her friend agreed that the park was one of their favorite things about our trip. After you’ve spent enough time at the park you are within walking distance to an area of town called “Old Market” (http://www.oldmarket.com/
I am a chunky lady so when I say within walking distance that means it sits right next to each other. There are lots of neat shops and street vendors. It sort of reminds you of a cleaner, safer, and smaller version of New York because the shops are so eclectic.
We stumbled across a place called Zio’s Pizzeria. Even my picky eater said it was delicious and the calzone that I had was by far and away the best I’ve ever had. It was amazing enough that just thinking about it makes me want to drive the four hours back to Omaha just for another one. lol
