Eagle Rock Reservation, West Orange, New Jersey
One of my favorite places in New Jersey is Eagle Rock Reservation, located on Eagle Rock Avenue in West Orange, New Jersey, approximately 35 minutes south of New York City.
It is a small reservation with space available for picnics, it has a monument to 9/11 that is on an observation ledge that you can see all of New York City from, the view is spectacular, especially at night. I had the pleasure of watching the New York City fireworks display from here, which was really cool to see.
Another very cool part about this place is how many deer there are. I have seen on average at least five deer every time I have gone there and sometimes you see as many as ten. The deer act a lot different than deer from more rural areas. They are less timid and you can get pretty close to them before they run away, I got about 3 feet from a Buck last time I was there and he wasn't even really paying attention to me.
The area around it has many restaurants and such including the Eagle Rock Diner down the street which is a very good breakfast diner that has every kind of pastry you could think of, I would highly suggest having a breakfast or two there. It isn’t too far from Point Pleasant Beach, maybe an hour or so, which would be another nice place to hit in New Jersey.

Definitely worth visiting!
