With a nickname like "Little America", it is no wonder that day trips in Maryland often come up in conversation among RVing and home schooling families. This one state is almost a reflection of the entire United States offering beaches, lakes, mountains, and everything in between to explore!
Other places to visit in Maryland include the top-destination of Baltimore, which offers the usual range of shopping, fine dining and major tourist attractions.
The state's capital city Annapolis, on the other hand, offers day trips in Maryland allowing visitors a chance to explore colonial heritage.

Its easy to do. Here's a submission from one viewer:
Maryland's Inner Harbor National Aquarium
When visiting Maryland with children, you cannot pass up an opportunity to see Baltimore's Inner Harbor. The most popular attraction at the Harbor is the National Aquarium (Read more on Inner Harbor attractions here: http://baltimore.org/about-baltimore/inner-harbor).
If traveling during the weekend, its best to get to the Aquarium as early as possible, right when it opens is your best bet.
When buying admission tickets, you'll have an option to also purchase tickets for a dolphin show (a must see!) and a 4-D movie.
Your tickets will have the times of your shows printed on them for easy remembering.
The aquarium is a very popular destination so it often gets very crowded between all the people and subsequently, strollers, crowding around exhibits and through walking spaces. Your best bet for a painless trip is to literally "go with the flow" (of foot traffic, that is!).
Instead of hopping around to different portions, just follow through the corridors as the planners intended and you'll avoid a lot of stepped-on toes or elbowed sides. Wait patiently for people looking at exhibits to move along, and make sure to get in and out in a reasonable amount of time yourself for courtesy of folks behind you!
During the dolphin show, don't sit in the splash area unless you're really serious about being splashed - you WILL get wet!
As far as the 4-D movie goes, its usually suitable for older children, unless your child is fearless like mine. The extra effects (wind blowing from the seat ahead of you, bubbles, a cord touching your legs from under the seat, a "jab" poking you in the back out of your seat), tend to frighten younger children. Not to mention the 3-D aspect is extremely realistic and "in your face"!
After an exhausting trip around the aquarium, the Inner Harbor boasts a very fun and popular Hard Rock Cafe, which is convenient for a late lunch and time to relax. If you're in the mood for more walking after this, there's a GIANT Border's bookstore next to the Hard Rock Cafe which is great for shopping and killing time.
But what about you and your family? In your opinion, what recreational places should be explored as day trips in Maryland? Be sure to give your favorite (and least favorite) destinations in Maryland a score from 1-5 so other families know the best destinations in the state.
