Aquarium of the Americas and Audubon Zoo New Orleans
In my trips to Louisiana, New Orleans is the best place to go! There is so much to see and do.
My favorite would have to be the Aquarium of the Americas. They have all kinds of aquatic life- from fish to albino alligators!
I remember seeing an injured bald eagle that they were taking care of as well, it was so neat! My whole family went, and I think everyone's favorite part was the tunnel. It is built into the huge aquarium, and you walk through it. It's like you are on the ocean floor! Sharks and sting rays swim above you, and all sorts of other fish too. It was a little scary at first to my younger sisters, but it was something they will never forget!
They also have some hands-on programs, like we got to see a sea cucumber up close, and even got to pet a baby alligator! It was so much fun, especially for kids who love animals.
If you can't make it to the Aquarium of the Americas, there is always the Audubon Zoo. Of course there are many more animals there! My favorites were the Spectacled Bears, I have only seen them at the Audubon Zoo.
The zoo is a fun place for families, with enough space for kids to get out all their energy by walking to all the habitats. They have all the usual animals you see at zoos- lions, tigers, bears, giraffes, etc. It was one of the best ones I have ever been to and I can't wait until my next visit with my family!
Here is the website for both locations: http://www.auduboninstitute.org/ (the zoo & aquarium are associated with each other, so they link from the same site)
