Anchors Aweigh Campground, Foley, AL
by Jason Hadley
We purchased a Jayco Pop-up about 3 years ago and live on the Gulf Coast. We decided on Anchors Aweigh because it’s close to the Gulf Shores area and not far from our home. Little did we know we would fall in love with this little campground that is literally in our own backyard! As you can tell by the name, there is a ‘nautical’ theme. The campground is run by a great couple, Rodney and Ann. It is very family oriented, and Ann always has activities for the smaller children on Holiday weekends. It may be a campfire, smores, or karaoke, but no matter the activity, there is always a family feel to it. Many campers visit the park frequently, and a lot of us know each other simply from going to Anchors Aweigh. The restrooms and showers are very clean and well ventilated, which is important to us because our camper does not have a restroom unit. Campsites are well maintained, equipped with various types of power (30, 50 AMP), water, and sewer. The campground offers free internet access via a wireless network. Our personal favorite is the pool area. A nice size beach type pool with jets shooting water into the air provides endless hours of playtime for the children. We spend most of our time here, and my wife and I enjoy the hot tub during the cooler times. There is a small playground, again with the nautical theme, adjacent to the pool, so you can see the youngsters, but give them a little bit of freedom. As you may already know, the Gulf Shores and Orange Beach areas are very crowded tourist areas. Anchors Aweigh provides a great, family friendly, cost effective alternative to a great area that is close to the beaches.
