Amish Country

by Michelle Thomas

While in Elkhart, In we decided to take a tour of Amish Country. Our two daughters watch Veggie Tales and in one episode they were talking about Shipshawana, In so we decided to take them there to see it.

There is a visitor's center in Elkhart that you can visit and get a free map and audio cd for an audio tour of Amish Country. It is a 90 mile loop. It takes you through several small Amish communities. Very beautiful countryside.

We saw many buggies on the roads and the girls got a kick out of all the buggy parking at businesses.

Shipshawana is the biggest town you go through on the tour. We stopped at Davis Merchantile for lunch and shopping. On the 3rd floor they have an old carousel that the girls enjoyed. There are plenty of authentic Amish restaurants along the tour.

Well worth the 90 miles!!!
