Alaska SeaLife Center in Seward, Alaska
by Mason Kelly
The center was unlike any public aquarium I had ever visited in the past. There were so many marine animals to view and learn about. My kids were absolutely delighted by the Puffin Encounter Tour. During this tour, you are given private time in the penguins’ habitat. The guides were wonderful, giving us so much information that I would never have gotten by just walking around the center. I never thought I would be so up-close to penguins in my life, and I must admit it was a thrill! I will never forget the sound of my son’s laughter as he kneeled only a few feet away from the penguins. Other smaller tours included an Octopus Encounter, a Mammals Encounter, and if your child has a love for science, a tour where you can dissect a squid! If you would rather not spend the extra money on the private tours, just spending an afternoon at the SeaLife Center is still a blast. You’ll be amazed by the other marine life, such as sea lions and octopuses. The habitats are absolutely incredible. Not only is the SeaLife Center an aquarium, but it also functions as a rescue center, where it cares for any injured animals. It is also the site of extensive research on the wildlife in the area. It was nice to feel as though your admission price was going to something good. http://www.alaskasealife.org/
